- "Obi" is a wide belt that is worn around the waist of a Japanese kimono. It is also the name of a group of islands in the Indonesian province of North Maluku. Dutch designer Roderick Vos loves everything Asian. His "Obi" table series was actually inspired by the shape of Balinese offering plates. Increasing their size and simplifying the traditional silhouette led the table to quickly become iconic.
